PhD without Masters – How does it work?
To be considered for a doctorate without a master’s degree, at least a bachelor’s degree is required. In general, students wishing to enroll in a doctoral program in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) must have a relevant 3-year undergraduate degree. However, this does not apply to students who wish to apply for non-STEM doctorates. Conversely, students wishing to apply for a doctorate in subjects such as the humanities are generally expected to have a relevant bachelor’s degree from a 4-year degree.
In addition, you must have taken solid courses during your undergraduate studies. This means that your undergraduate degree must be at least Second Upper UK Honors (2.1) so that almost all institutions can consider you.
