Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl invited us to ten books that I liked but didn’t mention on my blog. I don’t know if Jana and I are on the same page or if I inadvertently saw this thread recently, but that’s exactly what I wrote two weeks ago! Needless to say, I’m going off script. I went through some old issues and decided to reveal the ten longest books I’ve ever read. I think this resonated with me because I just finished a 500+ page book and am reading three more that are even longer! Digital download, man. They surprise you. I am not including collections here.
I have an affiliate relationship with the lovely Malaprop bookstore/cafe in Asheville, NC. I will receive a small commission at no additional cost to you if you purchase products through links on my website.

The Stand: Not Always King’s Longest Book
When Stephen King first published The Stand in 1978, it was only 823 pages long. Of course, it’s still an incredibly long book, and it was King’s longest at the time. However, when it came out in 1986 with 1,138 pages, it was number one on the list.
However, King’s original manuscript for The Stand contained more than 300 additional pages or approximately 150,000 additional words. He cut the book significantly to fit his publisher’s wishes. The publishers thought the book was too long and would scare readers, so King cut it down to 823 pages.
The Stand
In 1978, after publishing just four books, King began writing one of the most forward-thinking books of his young career. Now, more than 40 years after its publication, The Stand remains one of King’s most cohesive books, often referred to as King’s magnum opus (which he hates to be called, meaning he’s written something as good as this novel). he is writing, he wrote four decades ago).
At just over a thousand pages, The Stand is one of King’s longest books, with a host of characters and acting as a modern retelling of The Lord of the Rings in a post-apocalyptic American setting. The novel centers on a deadly experimental disease that was accidentally released from control and wiped out 99% of the world’s population.
