Writing a thesis is like a frantic race towards the end of a long marathon: it boosts your well-deserved pace. In theory, at least. Because in practice, it turns out that a thesis is often a stumbling block for students. Sometimes students have no idea what is expected of them, and it is increasingly common for them to seek (paid) help from a thesis agency.
Why do students have these problems with the final thesis? Amos van Gelderen, professor of languages at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, notes two things. First, degree programs don’t just teach their students how to write a thesis. After more than three years, all you have to do is start writing it. In addition, the requirements for theses established by the programs are often vague and abstract.
Obstacle or error
Carrying out and writing research requires a systematic, organized and structured effort on the part of the researcher or researchers. Any researcher who does not understand or apply this will have research problems. These problems can range from a few minor hurdles that the researcher can overcome as soon as they realize it, to major problems that cause the research to fail. Once there is a problem and you find it, you have to stop, think and find ways to solve it.
A problem that you have not understood can become serious if it goes to the next stage of investigation.
So no part of the investigation is arguably the most difficult, but of course it depends on how you get to know it. Your previous experience in your field and in research will certainly help you through the research process.
Writing your thesis
Perhaps the most difficult part of your thesis is writing it. From editing to writer’s block to difficulty finding enough facts and research material, many things can disrupt the writing process.
To overcome these challenges, we recommend that you set deadlines with your supervisor to stay focused. Look for books in the university library and use online resources to find research materials. You can also talk to your peers and get their feedback on your research material.
Finding answers to difficult questions
These questions may arise when writing an article. Google, of course, is always ready to help, but it’s not always so good when it comes to very precise scientific questions. You may need to study the basics of scientific research, contact authors and find answers to the most difficult questions.
