If you are using interactive notebooks, create something similar to the following. Students must take notes and give examples. This will give you a wonderful reference to review when writing future paragraphs. When I’m pacing while writing and realize students forgot to add a topic sentence, I remind them to use their notebooks. It works wonderfully! It is an effective tool for use in small groups and for rehabilitation.
If you are using a digital format, you can still have students write with interactive notes by asking them to move pieces and fill in text boxes.
